The Wisconsin Employment Relations Commission says UW Health isn’t required to negotiate with a recently created nurses union.
The state commission issued its ruling yesterday. UW Health said the commission “concluded that Act 10 eliminated UW Health from coverage by the Wisconsin Peace Act.” Both the nurses union and UW Health agreed this is just a “first step.” The nurses union UW Nurses United plans to appeal the ruling and also to petition the National Labor Relations Board for a union election. UW Health will seek clarification from the state’s Supreme Court if it’s legally required to recognize and negotiate with the union and if not, can it do so voluntarily.
