Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson is introducing legislation that would pay essential federal staff amid the ongoing partial government shutdown. Yesterday, the Oshkosh Republican joined forces with Maine Senator Susan Collins to present the bill.
Under the measure, unappropriated funds would be used to pay about 420-thousand federal workers throughout several agencies who are currently forced to work without pay. That includes employees with the Coast Guard and departments of Commerce, Homeland Security and Interior. Roughly 800-thousand federal workers missed their first paychecks as Congress and President Trump continue to spar over border wall funding.
