Brett Favre says he’s been “unjustly smeared’ by the coverage of his ties to Mississippi’s welfare fraud case.
Favre told Fox News yesterday that he simply tried to help his alma mater and that he didn’t know the million-plus dollars he was paid came from welfare funds. Favre has never been charged, but Mississippi’s former state welfare director has been. She and Favre worked on and texted about securing money for the University of Southern Mississippi and a new volleyball gym. Favre says it wasn’t his job to vet the project and said that he was assured by Mississippi officials that everything was on the up-and-up.
