Donation Brings Local Community Child Care Option

A donation looks to fill a need in our local community. Below is the information directly from Augusta!

The Augusta Area School District was recently surprised with a very generous gift. Since the fall of 2021 the Augusta Area School District has been exploring ways to help address the significant childcare shortage in the Augusta community.

“The continued support Jennifer has shown the school district and the Augusta Community is really remarkable. Her ongoing passion to positively impact the lives of children in our community through a partnership with the school will last for generations…”

Like many rural areas, the demand for childcare exceeds the available capacity of the area providers. As a community partner, the school district wanted to help find solutions to that problem. During a conversation with local resident and Augusta alum, Jennifer Bethke, the concerns about the childcare shortage surfaced. Having a passion to positively impact the lives of the young children in the community inspired Jennifer to get involved.

She met with Augusta Area School District Administrator, Ryan Nelson, and informed him that she would like to make the vision for an early learning center and after-school kids club a reality for the Augusta Community by donating to the District the funds necessary to construct a facility that can accommodate children for both regular childcare and before and after school care.

“The continued support Jennifer has shown the school district and the Augusta Community is really remarkable. Her ongoing passion to positively impact the lives of children in our community through a partnership with the school will last for generations,” said Ryan Nelson, Augusta Area School District Administrator. “We are incredibly grateful for this generous donation.” The District plans to continue with the development phase of the project in an effort to have the early learning center and after-school kids club open by early 2024.

The center will operate under the Augusta Area School District umbrella of the Augusta Area School District but will be organized in a manner just as a private
childcare center would be.
