It’s now 42 days and counting for the beach closure at Lake Altoona.
The state says an algae bloom closed the beach last month, and swimmers have been banned ever since. Lake Altoona board’s Michelle Skinner says they’ve essentially lost half the summer. DNR biologists say this has been a particularly bad summer for algae. The old record for an algae-related-closing at the beach was 28 days.
