Wisconsin is a big step closer to closing its troubled youth prisons.
Governor Evers yesterday announced the state has bought land in Milwaukee to eventually replace the Lincoln Hills and Copper Lake facilities. The state has been wanting to, and waiting to, close both prisons for years after complaints of abuse. The closures, however, have been stalled because no one could agree on where to build their replacements. The governor yesterday said he expects city leaders in Milwaukee to officially jump on-board with the replacement plan later this week.
