School districts in the area are getting familiar with the next generation of buses. Eau Claire’s Student Transit hosted a seminar this week allowing officials to take a ride in an all-electric model manufactured by Thomas-Built Buses.
General Manager Marty Klukas says the lack of infrastructure for the new technology is slowing any potential move to all-electric at the moment, however federal grants may make them a viable option in the future. Student Transit is contracting with consultants, Xcel Energy, to look into the economics of electric vehicles through a fleet advisory study.
