Rayovac, the battery brand that’s been based in the Madison area for more than a century, is no longer a local brand.
Spectrum Brands, the Middleton-based parent company of Rayovac, announced Wednesday that it sold Rayovac’s global battery and lightning unit to Energizer Holdings for $2 billion. Energizer is based in St. Louis. So far, there’s no word from the two companies about what will happen to the 700 Rayovac workers in Wisconsin.
Rayovac began as the French Battery Co., incorporated in Madison in 1906.
