Group Shines Light on Power Shortages

There is a real worry about power shortages in Wisconsin this summer.

The state’s largest business group, Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce, yesterday held a meeting with a member of the state’s Public Service Commission to highlight the growing demand for power, and the shrinking supply. Commissioner Ellen Nowak says she’s not hitting the panic button, but says the worry about blackouts should be a wake-up call. The operators of the Midwest’s power grid have been warning for weeks that fossil fuel power plants are being taken offline, and there aren’t enough reliable replacements for them just yet.
