We celebrate Father’s Day on Sunday, but why? Well, its origins are not well-known.
This year officially marks the 50th anniversary of the day dedicated to dads. It wasn’t until 1972 that Father’s Day was recognized as an American holiday after being signed off by President Richard Nixon. Sonora Dodd, the daughter of a Civil War veteran, is credited with organizing the first-ever one back in 1910 to honor her own father, and wanted the day to be in June.
So, to all the dads and dad-types we wish you a day filled with grilling, groaner jokes, life advice, and various moments (stereotypical or not) that make you smile. We love ya, dads!
