As expected, some folks in Marathon County don’t want to see a new mine opened in their communities.
County leaders are considering a proposal to drill in parts of the county to look for gold and other valuable metals or minerals. A company, Green Light Metals, says there could be huge deposits of valuable metals in a large swath of land across the middle third of Wisconsin.
Opponents are worried about the environmental impact of the mines, but Green Light says new mining technology means any mines that may be opened will be as clean and environmentally friendly as they can be.
