Expect the future of Roe v. Wade to become even more of a political issue in Wisconsin.
The candidates for governor and U.S. Senate in the state all weighed-in on last night’s leak of a draft opinion from the U.S. Supreme Court that would strike down Roe.
Governor Evers said he will fight to continue abortions in the state, while three of the four Republicans candidates all said they’re happy to see Roe on the way to being struck down. Wisconsin Republican U.S. Senator Ron Johnson focused on the leak last night, saying the leak is an attempt to undermine the court with political pressure. Democratic U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin said the chance that Roe could be tossed-out shows the need to end the filibuster in the Senate and keep Roe by passing new laws.
