A Wisconsin dentist is facing up to ten years in prison after being convicted for intentionally breaking patients’ teeth.
Prosecutors say Scott Charmoli broke patients’ teeth using a drill after convincing them they needed a crown procedure. He would then take an X-ray of the broken tooth to file claims with insurance companies. He filed more than four-million dollars in claims with just one insurance company over a three year span.
The new owner of the dentistry where Charmoli worked said he discovered the misconduct after reviewing patient files.
