Reports of a man firing a rifle in Eau Claire lead to an arrest and the discovery of a weapon taken in a recent burglary.
On March 12, 2022, just after 10:00am, Eau Claire Police and the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 2600 block of Boardwalk Circle for a report of a man walking around the neighborhood shooting a rifle.
An extensive search occurred. Officers were able to locate one male subject involved in the incident, but he did not have a firearm. The search continued along with a neighborhood canvas, and multiple interviews.
Deputies with the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office were able to locate the suspect Aaron Jones (DOB 8/25/2002), and safely take him into custody.
Evidence on scene suggested the suspect fired multiple rounds, some of which entered neighboring homes; thankfully, no community members were harmed or injured. Eau Claire Police Department Investigators were able to recover the rifle involved in this case and also identify it as one stolen in a recent burglary.
There are no additional people being sought in connection to this incident, and there is no additional concern for public safety.
The incident is still under investigation.
Jones is being held in the Eau Claire County Jail on charges of:
