COVID-19’s new omicron variant is present in Wisconsin.
Over the weekend, state health officials confirmed the single case. A man in Milwaukee County who recently returned from a trip to South Africa has tested positive for omicron. He is fully vaccinated including having already gotten his booster as well. The case is unrelated to another incidence of a COVID-19 infection at a wedding last weekend which is still under investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Health and the Milwaukee County Department of Health and Human Services.
Five people in northern California who are positive for the COVID-19 omicron variant attended a wedding last weekend in Milwaukee.
On Friday, Alameda County, California health officials said out of the group, one person had been traveling internationally prior to attending the wedding. Where the person had been traveling hasn’t been revealed. The California health officials say all five of those who have tested positive are fully vaccinated and display “mild symptoms.”
