Criticism Continues in Suspect’s Case

Milwaukee’s district attorney is blaming a young prosecutor for the low bail for the Waukesha parade suspect.

D.A. John Chisholm told county supervisors yesterday that an overworked young prosecutor made the decision to allow Darrell Brooks Jr. to be released on one thousand-dollars bail just days before police say he drove through the crowd at Waukesha’s Christmas parade.

Chisholm says he’s not trying to make excuses.  He spoke with commissioners over Zoom, which means there was no chance for reporters or anyone else to ask Chisholm any questions.  Chisholm continues to face criticism, not just for Brooks’ low bail but for other cases where prosecutors have allowed suspects to walk out of jail on low bail amounts and commit new crimes.
