The sheriff in Racine County is asking for felony charges against most of the people in charge of elections in the state
. Sheriff Christopher Schmaling recommended felony charges for Wisconsin Elections Commission members Marge Bostelmann, Julie Glancey, Ann Jacobs, Dean Knudson and Mark Thomsen. He says they broke five separate state laws when they told workers at nursing homes in the county to fill-out ballots for elderly patients last fall. Schmalling is not recommending charges against any of the workers at the homes.
Schmalling last week presented his evidence in the case to reporters and called on Wisconsin’s attorney general to start a statewide investigation. A-G Josh Kaul yesterday called Schmalling’s charging recommendation a “publicity stunt.”
