Lawmakers Open Door on Housing Plan

Wisconsin Republicans want to make it easier for people to buy a house.

A number of Republican lawmakers yesterday introduced a plan to roll back some red tape and use tax incentives to build more homes in the state. State Rep. Jim Steineke said the lack of affordable housing is not only driving prices up, but it’s stopping young workers and young families from setting down roots in Wisconsin. The Republicans say the state’s housing shortage is a statewide issue, not just a problem in southeast Wisconsin.
