Today, Rep. Emerson accompanied Sen. Tammy Baldwin, Rep. Ron Kind, Rep. Mark Pocan, and fellow colleagues on a visit to Fort McCoy. Rep. Jodi Emerson (D-Eau Claire) issued the following statement in response:
“It was an honor to visit Fort McCoy today to observe the processing and transition efforts of the Afghanistan refugees housed there. First and foremost, I want to thank our service members and other military personnel who have helped support our Afghan allies during this transition. We are forever in debt to those who have risked their lives to ensure the safety for our allies and other Americans during this time.
Our allies from Afghanistan provided an invaluable service to us during these past 20 years and I am proud that Wisconsin and Fort McCoy will be playing such a key role in welcoming these allies into our country. Regardless of race, religion, or status, we must be patient in the days ahead and support these families and individuals arriving at Fort McCoy, who may be experiencing trauma and grief”
