Toxic blooms are causing the health department to issue a water quality advisory for the beaches at Lake Eau Claire and Lake Altoona.
The Eau Claire City-County Health Department says the algae can be harmful to children and pets. They ask people not to swim, touch or swallow the water near the algae and avoid boating and fishing in the area. Half Moon Lake Beach is closed because of unsafe algae levels.
