A lot of ‘he’s’ and ‘her’s’ in Wisconsin’s official forms and pamphlets are likely going to be replaced with ‘their’s.’
Governor Tony Evers yesterday ordered state agencies under his control to remove gender-specific language from the state’s ‘external documents.’ The governor says using gendered language makes assumptions that are no longer necessarily true. It will take some time. The state’s Department of Administration must first write a policy for how to use non-gendered language in the future.
The governor did not have any examples of the kind of language he wants replaced.
