They’re called “man’s best friend” for a reason. Dogs. They usually bring the best out in their humans, so when we get a chance to help them…well, we make it a Friday Feel Good.

This week we meet a stray dog taken in by Sacramento’s Bradshaw Animal Shelter.-a dog that is now on a path to a greater purpose. Allison Harris from the shelter says she reached out to the National Disaster Search dog Foundation after they had trouble finding the Belgian Malinois named Chapo the perfect home to fit his mental and physical stimulation needs.
He’s now settling into his new environment, working on obedience training and learning fitness exercises to see if he’s a good fit to be a search dog. The foundation rescues and recruits dogs, partnering them with firefighters and other first responders to find people buried alive in the wreckage of disasters.
Harris says the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation, based in Santa Paula, California, arranged a flight to recruit Chapo to discover his true potential.
