Group Lobbies For More Toxic Testing

An environmental analysis of Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota claims the states do not have sufficient testing for toxic algae.

The Environmental Working Group says it’s new interactive map shows results of state tests in which toxic microcystin presented itself. They say it can be harmful to humans, pets, and wildlife and cause short-term health symptoms. Wisconsin doesn’t have a routine program to monitor for the algae every year. The group argues more testing is needed to keep people safe from algae toxins in the Upper Midwest.
