The search for an armed and dangerous man who escaped a police standoff last week is over.

The sheriff in Jackson County says deputies arrested 74-year-old Gary Hughes yesterday afternoon in the Town of Springfield. Hughes was on the run after a standoff with authorities on Thursday night. The sheriff says he managed to escape by shooting at deputies. Hughes was originally wanted for a probation violation.
