Wisconsin’s largest business group wants a judge to force the state’s Department of Natural Resources to be more clear about the rules for environmental clean-ups.
Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce filed a lawsuit yesterday. The suit accuses DNR of ‘unilaterally and unlawfully’ changing the rules for the state’s voluntary clean-up program. WMC says the state decides what qualifies as a clean-up and what qualifies as a contamination on a case by case basis. WMC’s lawyers say spilled milk can even be considered a contamination. The lawsuit asks DNR to follow the state’s open and public rulemaking procedures.
