If the University of Wisconsin’s numbers are right, the campus in Madison is worth nearly one-tenth of the state’s budget.
UW-Madison yesterday released a study that says it has a 31-billion-dollar economic impact every year. The state says nearly 237 thousand jobs can be tied back to the university, and says UW-Madison returns 26 dollars for every dollar invested from the state. It’s not just teaching classes and playing football that drive the numbers. UW-Madison says the research arm of the school is a major factor in its economic success.
