The plan to make sure small businesses in Wisconsin don’t have to pay taxes on their paycheck protection loans is moving at the Capitol.
But it remains to be seen if Governor Evers will change his mind. The governor last month quietly announced he will tax what were supposed to be tax-free loans to small businesses in the state. The legislature’s Joint Finance Committee yesterday approved a plan to declare the loans off-limits to state taxes. A vote in the Assembly and Senate are next. But the plan must go to the governor before becoming law. Republicans do not have the numbers to override the governor on their own.
