Wisconsin’s rape shield law is about to be tested.
The Wisconsin Supreme Court agreed to hear a challenge to a 2016 rape case out of River Falls. The rape shield law was created to make sure lawyers couldn’t tarnish a woman for her sexual past. The case before the court asks whether the law also bans evidence about a victim’s lack of sexual experience. That was one of the key points in convicting then 26-year-old Ryan Mulhern of one count of second-degree sexual assault.
