A Sauk County community is in need of bottled drinking water after contaminants were found in the water supply.
Officials in the Village Of La Valle say the town’s only well has benzene at levels that put public health at risk. Village President Rockie Sobeck says state health officials detected the chemical last March but levels kept rising leading to a ban on using the water in December which is still in effect now.
Sobeck said the Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin dropped off ten pallets of water yesterday which he thinks will last around a month.
