Menomonie Police have responded to a string of incidents involving post-it notes left on cars, below is their direct response.
We have received several inquiries regarding suspicious activity at Dick’s Fresh Market. This activity is in the form of post-it notes being left on someone’s car stating that the vehicle had been hit and with a phone number at the bottom. The number, when called, is not in service.
We are investigating this and working closely with Dick’s Fresh Market. If you have experienced this, please call 715-232-1283 and ask to speak with Officer Tisol. Importantly, we want you to know that Dick’s Fresh Market is safe, along with the rest of our community. In posts circulating on social media, many people have stated this to be linked to human trafficking. We do not have any reason to link this to human trafficking, and it is extremely important to know that human trafficking largely does not occur in this manner. It DOES happen in our area and is an important topic to be aware of- but 99% of the time it is not random in that most victims know their traffickers.
If you are interested in learning more about human trafficking, stay tuned. We will be posting some additional information to our page next week. If you want to learn more and support a local organization that fights human trafficking and helps victims, the Bridge To Hope is an excellent partner that we are fortunate to have in our community. Thank you and as always, call us at 715-232-1283 if you need us, and call 911 in the event of an emergency.
