The coronavirus vaccine is now available in Wisconsin. Healthcare workers in Madison yesterday became the first in the state to get a shot. Wisconsin’s Department of Health Services says 10 thousand vaccine doses arrived yesterday, there should be 40 thousand more by the end of the day tomorrow.
Wisconsin may now have its first doses of the coronavirus vaccine, but it will be a while before most people in the state get a chance to get it. Department of Health Services Deputy Secretary Julie Willems Van Dijk yesterday said it will take weeks just to vaccinate all of Wisconsin’s healthcare workers. She says it will be the middle of next month before people in long term care facilities are taken care of. It could be the fall before the vaccine is widely available.
Willems Van Dijk says most vaccinations will happen at doctors offices, but she says they are also planning for mass-community vaccination sites across the state.
