Eau Claire’s latest mass transit plan looks a lot like Uber.
The city council voted yesterday for a new five-year development plan that calls for an on-demand ride service. It would be a lot like Uber, but Eau Claire transit manager Tom Wagener says it would be a bit different.
Wagner says there are a lot of empty buses in Eau Claire, particularly on the north side, he thinks a targeted and on-demand option would be better. The rides would not be free, but could cost the same as bus fare. There is no word if Eau Claire would cut some of its bus routes or bus drivers to help pay for the new option.
