It’s not that Joe Wiltzius shot an elk, he had a permit, it’s where he shot the elk that got him into trouble.
Wisconsin conservation police ticketed Wiltzius after they say he shot the elk while it was standing in the middle of the road in Round Lake Township last week. It is illegal to shoot an animal from across the street, or to shoot it while it is in the street.
Wiltzius is facing a possible two thousand-dollar fine. Wiltzius is just one of five people in the state, who are not with a tribe, to have an elk hunting permit.
