DNC 2020 Wraps Up, WI Political Notes

The flash and fanfare that came with the end of the Democratic National Committee came in Delaware, not the streets of downtown Milwaukee.

Fireworks soared over Wilmington, Delaware last night after Joe Biden accepted the nomination for president. Milwaukee hosted this year’s convention in name only.

Just a few hundred people came to Milwaukee for the DNC. Most of them and the gear they brought are expected to be gone by Monday at the latest.

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden claims there is too much anger, fear and division in America.

Biden headlined the final night of the Democratic National Convention and said it is “time for ‘we the people’ to come together.”  The former VP formally accepted his party’s nomination and vowed to be “ally of the light and not the darkness.”  Biden said he will represent all Americans, not just his “base.”  He called this a life-changing election with character, science and democracy on the ballot.

No pressure. That’s what Nancy Pelosi said after telling Democrats in Milwaukee this week the November election – “it’s all riding on Wisconsin.” Former Attorney General Eric Holder was also a part of the meeting, he too said Wisconsin is the key to a Democratic victory this fall. Polls show Joe Biden with a lead in Wisconsin. But other polls show President Trump is pulling closer both nationally and in other battleground states.

And it’s a NO for WEST. Kayne West’s bid to be on the Wisconsin ballot this November is over. The state’s Election Commission yesterday voted not to put West on the ballot because he missed the state’s filing deadline by several minutes. West’s lawyers said they were 14 seconds late last week. The Election Commission says the campaign was actually several minutes past the 5 p.m. deadline. Republicans in Wisconsin are not happy with the decision, Democrats in the state say they are glad to see that West cannot potentially siphon votes away from Joe Biden.
