The victim of a hate crime is thanking the Madison community for its support.
Althea Bernstein and her family issued a statement today saying the attack last week has been a traumatic experience physically, mentally and emotionally for the 18-year-old. They say Althea is receiving an outpouring of support from friends, family and neighbors. Bernstein suffered second and third degree burns to her face after a white man shouted a racial slur, walked up to her car as she waited at a stoplight, sprayed her with a liquid and then lit the fluid.
A ten-thousand-dollar reward is being offered for the arrest and conviction of the suspect.
