WOMAN REWARDED FOR QUICK THINKING

A woman who helped police capture two escaped inmates is getting a reward for her actions.

Columbia County Crimestoppers said Carly Rice will be receiving a five-hundred dollar reward for “her quick thinking and role in capturing two escapees from Columbia Correctional Institution” in Portage.

Rice found Thomas Deering and James Newman waiting outside one morning at  the non profit shelter for the homeless she operates in Rockford, Illinois in mid April.  She recognized from their clothing they were inmates but she let them inside anyway allowing them to warm up and get a bite to eat while without their knowledge she called 9-1-1.
