A homeless-shelter operator In Illinois turns in two Wisconsin escaped inmates.
Early Friday morning, Carly Rice found Thomas Deering and James Newman still wearing their prison uniforms as they stood waiting for her to open her non profit Carly’s Place where she feeds and houses the homeless. Deering and Newman escaped from Columbia County Correctional Institution in Portage on Thursday. WIFR reports that Rice says she knew who the men were so she called police without their knowledge and gave them food and jackets while waiting for Rockford Police to arrive.
A kitchen worker at the correctional facility where two inmates escaped is now accused of helping them.
Holly Zimdahl was arrested Thursday night and charged with being party to a crime. Columbia County Sheriff’s investigators are looking into how Zimdahl met the inmates and whether anyone else at the site may also have been involved. Thomas Deering and James Newman got away from the Columbia County Correctional Institution Thursday and were captured in Rockford, Illinois Friday morning.
