RIVER LEVELS COULD RISE THIS WEEK

The creep up the thermometer feels great, but it also means we now pay attention to melting.

Recent snow melt and forecasted rainfall this week in the upper Chippewa River watershed is likely to result in increased runoff and some rising waters.

At 6 a.m. today the Chippewa River gauge at Grand Avenue read 760 feet. This is 13 feet below the downtown flood stage, but at this level is approaching Action Stage and may require the closure of some lower lying areas of the Chippewa River Trail.

The City of Eau Claire will continue to monitor the river closely and provide information and updates as necessary.
