Today, Portage County Judge Thomas B. Eagon sentenced Jason P. Sypher of Stevens Point, Wis. to life in prison. In October, a jury in Portage County found Sypher guilty of first-degree intentional homicide and of hiding a corpse. In March 2017, Sypher’s wife Krista disappeared and has never been found.
On one count for first-degree intentional homicide, Sypher was sentenced to life in prison and can petition for extended supervision in thirty years. Concurrently, for hiding a corpse, he was sentenced to five years initial confinement and five years extended supervision.
The evidence presented at trial established that on or about March 13, 2019, Sypher killed Krista and hid her body. The conviction was the result of a joint effort by the Plover Police Department, Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), Portage County Sheriff’s Office, Stevens Point Police Department, and Federal Bureau of Investigation.
