CHIPPEWA RIVER LEVEL UPDATES

Recent heavy rain in the upper Chippewa River watershed is causing increased levels on the Chippewa River
in Eau Claire.

At 6 a.m. the Chippewa River gauge at Grand Avenue read 762.8 feet, which is about 10 feet below the flood stage reading of 773 feet.  The current crest projection is 765 feet on Sunday, at this level the river will have entered our Action stage resulting in the closure of the lowest lying areas of the Chippewa River Trail.

For the safety of residents the following areas will be closed effective on Sunday:

–  Chippewa River Trail – behind the UW-Eau Claire Fine Arts Building

–  Chippewa River Trail – at the boat landing behind Hobbs Ice Arena

The City will continue to monitor the river closely and may close additional areas of the trail as necessary for safety.
