Legislation Aims to Support Families After Stillbirth

Legislation aimed at supporting parents after a stillbirth is heading to the governor’s desk.

Senate Bill 379 would create a two-thousand-dollar state income tax credit for families who experience a stillbirth, helping offset costs associated with medical care and burial expenses.  The bill passed the State Assembly unanimously and cleared the Senate.  Lawmakers say the bill is intended to both ease financial strain and formally recognize the loss families experience.

Wisconsin would join a small number of states offering similar tax credits if it gets signed into law.
