Nobody Injured in Gas Explosion

Township Fire Department is happy to report no injuries following a residential gas explosion in the Town of Union.

On the morning of Tuesday, February 10th, Township Fire and Emergicare were dispatched to a reported structure fire on Anderson Road in the Town of Union. While in route deputies on scene advised no visible fire, but that the kitchen was smoky and all occupants had evacuated. The first arriving units entered the structure and quickly determined a gas explosion had likely taken place. They then exited the structure and re-entered with breathing apparatus and gas meters where they detected elevated levels of carbon monoxide and combustible gas consistent with a gas leak. Utilities to the residence were disconnected and the residence ventilated while the structure was checked for additional concentrations of gas. The source of the gas leak was unable to be immediately determined.

The residence sustained minor damage to some interior spaces and was turned back over to the owners after ventilation was complete. An estimate of damages is not available at this time. In addition to the sole occupant at the time of the explosion, one dog was also safely evacuated. Two cats inside the residence were not located, but are believed to be unharmed.
