The Wisconsin Association of Fairs (WAF) has named Rusty Volk, past Northern Wisconsin State Fair Association Executive Director, the recipient of the 2025 Bob Williams Memorial Award, recognizing his outstanding dedication and leadership within the Wisconsin fair industry.

The Bob Williams Memorial Award honors individuals whose service reflects a long standing commitment to youth, education, agriculture, and the continued strength of fairs across the state. The award is not presented annually and is reserved for those whose impact truly embodies the spirit of Bob Williams.
With more than 18 years in the fair industry, including over 13 years as Executive Director of the Northern Wisconsin State Fair, Volk has been a respected leader, advocate, and mentor. He has served in numerous leadership roles with the Wisconsin Association of Fairs and the International Association of Fairs and Expositions, and has been instrumental in advancing critical funding initiatives and legislation supporting fairs statewide.
During one of the most challenging periods the live events industry has faced, Volk played an instrumental role in advancing critical funding initiatives, including the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant (SVOG) and the Wisconsin Department of Administration Live Events and Tourism Capital Grants. He has also been a key advocate for meaningful legislative progress, from fire suppression regulations to increased state aid funding—always with the broader good of the fair community in mind.
Widely known for his accessibility, expertise, and willingness to help, Volk’s influence extends beyond policy and projects to the relationships he has built and the guidance he has freely shared.
The award was presented last week at the Wisconsin Association of Fairs Convention banquet held at the Chula Vista in Wisconsin Dells.
