Kayaker Who Faked Death Released From Custody

A Wisconsin kayaker who faked his own death and fled the country has been released from custody.

Ryan Borgwardt pleaded guilty to misdemeanor obstruction back in August, and was sentenced to 89-days in jail.  Prosecutors say he staged his disappearance with an overturned kayak on Green Lake, then traveled to Canada and Asia before settling in the Republic of Georgia.  Investigators say he escaped to be with a woman he met on a dating app, leaving behind his wife and children in Wisconsin.

Borgwardt was also ordered to pay 30-thousand dollars to cover the cost of search and rescue efforts.
