Here we are on the other side of Thanksgiving. Are you still managing to make the leftovers for lunch and pick at the last of the pies? As we get into what for many is the “for real, real” rush of the holiday season life can seem like a whirlwind of social activities, lists, budget stress, and all of the other “life” stuff that creeps in. It can be a lot. We get it.

That’s why we like to take some time on Saturday mornings to slow down with our easy “scroll down memory lane.” It’s just a simple way to look back on events that happened on this day in history before you head out to make new history today. So, grab your favorite sippin’ drink and let’s scroll!

Today is Saturday, November 29th, the 333rd day of the year.

On this day:

In 1890, the first Army-Navy football game was played at West Point, New York. Navy dominated the game 24-to-nothing.

In 1922, Lord Carnarvon and Howard Carter opened the tomb of King Tutankhamen.

In 1943, coffee rationing began as part of the war effort.

In 1963, Chief Justice Earl Warren was appointed to head the commission investigating the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

In 1981, 43-year-old actress Natalie Wood died in a boating accident off Santa Catalina Island, California. In 1986, actor Cary Grant died at the age of 82. He starred in several popular films during his career including “North by Northwest” and “The Philadelphia Story.”

In 1991, actor Ralph Bellamy died at the age of 87. His acting career spanned seven decades.

In 2001, former Beatle George Harrison died from lung cancer at the age of 58. In 2007, former U.S. Representative Henry Hyde died at the age of 83.

In 2012, the United Nations General Assembly voted to elevate the Palestinians to non-member status, which implied statehood recognition for Palestine. The vote was 138 for, nine — including the United States and Canada — against the move, and 41 abstentions.

In 2015, Former President Obama paid tribute to the victims of the Paris terrorist attacks. He visited the Bataclan concert hall with French President Francois Hollande. The venue was the scene of the deadliest of several coordinated attacks that left 130 dead.

In 2015, NBA star Kobe Bryant announced on “The Players’ Tribune” that he would retire at the end of the year. The 37-year-old Los Angeles Lakers guard said “this season is all I have left to give.”

In 2017, Matt Lauer is fired from NBC’s “Today” show for an allegation of sexual misconduct.

In 2019, The Pope returned a wood fragment to Bethlehem believed to be from Jesus’ manger.

In 2020, President Joe Biden and VP Kamala Harris announce the first all-female White House Communications team.

In 2021, CEO of Twitter Jack Dorsey announced he was stepping down from his position.

In 2023, former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger died at the age of 100.
