A Wisconsin lawmaker is pushing to withhold pay for Congress during the federal government shutdown.
Representative Bryan Steil introduced a measure yesterday that would keep his colleagues in Washington, D.C. from receiving their pay during this shutdown, and deduct pay during future shutdowns. In a statement, the Republican argued members of Congress shouldn’t be getting paid if federal law enforcement and other essential works aren’t being compensated. Steil himself has requested his paychecks be withheld while the government is shut down.
