Knock, knock…
It’s here! Happy Halloween! It’s the night that scream queens count down to and that Linus sleeps in the pumpkin patch waiting for The Great Pumpkin. But, aside from a scheme to get sweets, why do we celebrate this day of all things spooky?

Halloween originated from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, which marked the end of summer and the harvest, and the beginning of winter. The Celts believed the veil between the worlds of the living and the dead thinned during this time, allowing spirits to cross over, which led them to light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts.

These traditions blended with the Christian observances of All Saints’ Day (November 1) and All Souls’ Day (November 2), with the evening before becoming known as “All Hallows’ Eve,” which eventually became “Halloween”.
