Eau Claire officials are considering a hike in its 24-dollar local wheel tax to 50 dollars to help raise money for road projects.
It’s a move other municipalities across the state have made. Revenues generated by wheel taxes can only be used for transportation projects in Wisconsin. Currently, local wheel tax revenues total one-million dollars which Eau Claire officials say doesn’t go far enough to cover all the projects that need to be funded. The proposal will be on the City Council agenda on November 11th.
