Lawmakers Question DPI Over Conduct Cases

State lawmakers are questioning how the Department of Public Instruction handled teacher misconduct cases.

This concerns more than 200 allegations of grooming or sexual misconduct.  Critics say DPI lets teachers resign and surrender licenses to avoid findings and public disclosure.  The Assembly education committee has called a hearing for State Superintendent Jill Underly to explain the agency’s response.  Underly says no wrongdoing occurred and that surrendering a license results in a lifetime teaching ban.
