  • 1911: The Wuchang Uprising begins in China, marking a crucial step toward the fall of the Qing dynasty and the establishment of the Republic of China.
  • 1939: A letter from Albert Einstein to President Franklin D. Roosevelt is received, discussing the potential of using uranium to create a powerful new weapon, leading to the creation of the Manhattan Project.
  • 1962: Pope John XXIII opens the Second Vatican Council (Vatican II), ushering in sweeping modernizations within the Catholic Church.

  • 2022: Actress Angela Lansbury, best known for her role in Murder, She Wrote, dies at age 96.
